‘Theory of Relativity’ encaustic by Jessie Polk

The Space Gallery is built on ideals of being accessible; to artists
and viewers alike. For us, this means that you may show your artwork regardless of your age, medium, and experience in the arts. Everyone needs a first gallery exhibition and we have seen artists go on to New York City, Chicago, or stay right here in Vermont, fulfilling their dreams of becoming a full time artist and making a living at it. For all of May, Space Gallery Members showcase pieces of artwork that they are proud of, is new for them, or best exemplifies their specific style. This also serves as a pre-view of the artists work that we will be showing throughout the coming year.

‘She Could Not Sleep’ oil painting by Corrine Yonce

‘Just the Essentials’ photography by Lauren Mazzotta

For the viewer; accessibility to us means that someone may visit the
gallery who may not have been in a formal exhibition setting before
and ask any question and feel comfortable doing so. Artists may walk in as well with questions about how to show or price work, and receive advice or critiques on their portfolio. We take pride in showing artwork and will always do so professionally.

Anyone, anywhere may become a member of The Space Gallery. We look forward to working with you, and as always…..
Thank you for your support!

First Friday Art Walk, February 2nd from 5 – 9pm

‘Me Too’ (detail) – by Beth Robinson and Annika Rundberg

The host/parasite relationship in nature is a strange, fascinating one. There are many reasons why this relationship exists, including population control, boosting immune response, aiding decomposition and supporting the food web. While most parasites do not kill their hosts, what compels those that do? In our culture, the word “parasite” has a decidedly negative connotation. Though literal parasites are seeking only to live, parasite/host relationships present between humans result in toxic power dynamics, financial instability, breakdowns of bodies and minds, and loss of benefit to both parties over time. The work in this exhibition was made to explore parasitic relationships in all their forms. Where do we get the energy we need to sustain ourselves? Are those sources sustainable or part of a system that ultimately depletes us? This group of female artists met over the course of six months to discuss their interpretations of the show concept. Each artist is exploring the theme from her own unique perspective. The work includes depictions of parasites in nature in addition to examinations of family dynamics, childbirth, beauty, sexuality, and dysfunctional relationships in the context of parasitism.

Live Tintypes Booth, $50 a plate/tintype for Patrons of the Event
Introduced in the mid-19th century, each tintype photograph is individually created by coating, sensitizing, exposing and developing metal plate as the subject sits for the portrait session. Many Civil War era photographs were created with this historic technology, which provides a hauntingly beautiful and permanent image especially suitable for heirloom portraits of individuals, families, and bands.
