‘Unnatural Light’ Exhibition

‘Unnatural Light’

Opening Reception Details for March 13, 2020

‘Thousands of Islands’ by Alexander Costantino $750

Details on Friday, March 13 The Space Gallery takes the health of the creative community seriously. That comes in many forms;

First; We will be open tonight from 5 – 9pm but for a limited opening reception. We will host another reception in April or when it is safer to do so. We have disinfected everything and will not be serving food or drinks tonight. We have hand sanitizer at the front door and a hand washing sink. Please stay home and enjoy our social media posts and live feeds tonight if you are feeling nervous or unwell. We will limit access if it feels too crowded, so please make sure to move along to the outside or hallways as more people come in!

‘Luna Glow’ by Nikki Laxar, acrylic on canvas $150

Second; The health of the creative community also means financial support! We are in love with this unique exhibition where each piece illuminates and will post each piece and a post about the artists throughout the month on Facebook and Instagram @spacegalleryvt. We encourage you to buy work online and we will ship to you! Artists, music, and industry workers are at high risk now due to cancelled events and limited attendance. Please do your part to support this vital portion of our community through commissions and purchases of artwork. We need beauty and light now more than ever. Enjoy in person or from home tonight, thank you.
Sincerely, The Space Gallery

‘Word of Mouth’ Solo Exhibition by Christy Mitchell

Word of Mouth

Solo Exhibition by Christy Mitchell

November 8 – 30, 2019
Open Thursday – Saturday 12-5pm

Set in a 1950’s dream, apple pies cool on the window sill and girls talk on the phone with their friends about…everything. This annual site specific, conceptual installation by The Space Gallery Director, Christy Mitchell, often uses symbolism from past decades to comment on her own current story lines. ‘Word of Mouth’ has a few things to say about how we communicate and what is shared through networks in small towns. The process itself is nearly as interesting as the content when you consider how fast news travels and how it is interpreted. As you walk through the exhibition, tap into your own memories from the past. Each piece stands for a moment in time and a fleeting thought, smell, sight or taste. Each song has been handpicked, and every note is meant for you specifically.

Special thanks to all of our friends and supporters!

The group exhibition showcases work from artists expressing how they interpret their views of the known and unknown world through artworks that are not always cheery and light, albeit still aesthetically pleasing. Work presented also takes a hard look in regards to our current time and place in the world, politically, socially, and diving in to current topics such as the climate crisis.

April: ‘Form/Function’ a Vermont Woodworking School Alumni Exhibition!

‘Form/Function’

A Vermont Woodworking School Alumni Exhibition

April 5 – 27, 2019

First Friday Opening Reception, April 5th from 5-9pm

Open Gallery Hours through April: Thursdays – Saturdays from 12-5pm

Glow Lamp by Towards Nightfall

Continuing in the long tradition of woodworking and craft culture in
the Northeast, ‘Form/Function’ features the works of emerging fine
furniture makers in Vermont. The makers each look to infuse beauty and
artistry into the objects that we live and interact with everyday,
looking past pure utilitarianism to craft pieces truly worth sharing
our spaces with.

Crook, chair by Jamie Herman

All the exhibitors were trained at the Vermont Woodworking School in
Fairfax and are members of the newly-formed Collective working out of
a cooperative shop in the school’s historic red barn. The members
represent four emerging furniture businesses, each one bringing a
distinct style and design aesthetic while staying true to the
time-tested methods of traditional wooden joinery and construction
techniques.

____________

“Form/Function” features contemporary, handcrafted furniture from members of The Collective at the Vermont Woodworking School. The exhibit showcases modern takes on traditional wooden furniture forms,
blurring the line between art and function. Works by emerging local design/build companies Eleven Wood Design, Jamie Herman Studio Furniture, Towards Nightfall, and Valor Woodworks. Selections of photography featured by fellow woodworker, Eli Rosenblum-Stephens.
