On View: ‘Point of Impact’ by Christy Mitchell

‘Point of Impact’
Solo Show by Christy Mitchell

Opening Reception: Friday, November 3 from 5-9pm
Duration: November 3-25, 2023
Open Fridays & Saturdays 12-5pm

Whether sent from the universe or embedded in our DNA, messages and events can suddenly arrive and change the course of our lives.

Artist Christy Mitchell creates a solo show each November to decipher and express those moments from the previous year. In ‘Point of Impact’ she tackles the hard reality of caring for family members struggling with their mental health.

Appearing in waves, hitting hard like an asteroid making contact with Earth, watching a loved one go through crisis can feel like the end of the world. An impact event is where there is a collision between astronomical objects, some causing catastrophic consequences.  In this exhibition, Christy attempts to illustrate what navigating life in the middle of a meteor shower may look like, with assemblages and objects being thrown together creating a beautiful, chaotic, and often scary landscape.

Opening Reception Details for March 13, 2020

‘Thousands of Islands’ by Alexander Costantino $750

Details on Friday, March 13 The Space Gallery takes the health of the creative community seriously. That comes in many forms;

First; We will be open tonight from 5 – 9pm but for a limited opening reception. We will host another reception in April or when it is safer to do so. We have disinfected everything and will not be serving food or drinks tonight. We have hand sanitizer at the front door and a hand washing sink. Please stay home and enjoy our social media posts and live feeds tonight if you are feeling nervous or unwell. We will limit access if it feels too crowded, so please make sure to move along to the outside or hallways as more people come in!

‘Luna Glow’ by Nikki Laxar, acrylic on canvas $150

Second; The health of the creative community also means financial support! We are in love with this unique exhibition where each piece illuminates and will post each piece and a post about the artists throughout the month on Facebook and Instagram @spacegalleryvt. We encourage you to buy work online and we will ship to you! Artists, music, and industry workers are at high risk now due to cancelled events and limited attendance. Please do your part to support this vital portion of our community through commissions and purchases of artwork. We need beauty and light now more than ever. Enjoy in person or from home tonight, thank you.
Sincerely, The Space Gallery
