October Exhibition: ‘Dark Matter’ – Final Weekend!

Dark Matter

Opening Reception: Friday, October 11 from 5 – 9pm
Closing Reception: Friday, November 1 from 5 – 8pm

October 11 – November 2, 2019
Open Thursdays – Saturdays from 12 – 5pm

The S.P.A.C.E. Gallery is honored to host our 11th annual ‘dark arts’ exhibition this fall with the third edition of ‘Dark Matter’. The group exhibition showcases work from artists expressing how they interpret their views of the known and unknown world through artworks that are not always cheery and light, albeit still aesthetically pleasing. Work presented also takes a hard look in regards to our current time and place in the world, politically, socially, and diving in to current topics such as the climate crisis.

The word Cadence, has rich associations. In jazz, it signals rhythm, flow and inventive solos in the company of others. Each of the four artists in this show bring a distinct approach to their art, yet a common thread – literally – ties these diverse and lively pieces together. Their work reflects deep engagement with their materials – and delight in the surprises and elaborations that spring from them.

Unique 12 color palette created exclusively by Ashley Roark for a show filled with screenprinting, collage, painting, installation, and video!

‘Making it Work’ monoprint collage by Ashley Roark

Ashley Roark’s signature style of creating collaged assemblages in minimalist color palettes has translated nicely to screen printing in her latest series of works! Roark sought out to learn the screen printing technique as a way to broaden her knowledge of processes, with the goal of finding a new way of mark-making in her own hand. Translating her distinct art language into a new medium has opened up a world of unique possibilities through monoprinting.

‘Place Mark’ ink, charcoal, graphite by Ashley Roark

Each piece is created through gestural movements with ink, she likens to dancing, that are then pulled through a screen. Later the work is curated and cut into shapes that find their final form in collage. In addition to collage, ‘On the Dotted Line’ features expressive paintings and unique sculpture by Ashley Roark that will solidify the artists style to the viewer, in a cohesive new body of work.

‘Small Works’ Continues for January, 2019

Happy New Year from Space!

First Friday Art Walk January

‘Small Works’ Exhibition Continues!
Friday January 4th – Saturday 17th

‘It Was So Cold on Shelburne Bay Last Winter’, encaustic by Jessie Polk

Sevendays newspaper so aptly states about our continuing exhibition….

“You’ve put away the holiday decorations, dragged the tree to the curb and made a New Year’s resolution: to buy some art for yourself. At Burlington’s S.P.A.C.E. Gallery, a whole exhibit full of petite artworks by Vermont artists measure no more than 12 inches, yet come in a big variety of styles and mediums. Consider decorating all of your rooms.”  We couldn’t agree more!

‘Sailing Dory’, acrylic by Tim Neiley

Join us every First Friday Art Walk from 5-9pm for complimentary wine and refreshments as you decide which pieces to take home with you!

‘Moonlit Haybales I’, oil on panel by Paul McMillan
