April: ‘Form/Function’ a Vermont Woodworking School Alumni Exhibition!

‘Form/Function’

A Vermont Woodworking School Alumni Exhibition

April 5 – 27, 2019

First Friday Opening Reception, April 5th from 5-9pm

Open Gallery Hours through April: Thursdays – Saturdays from 12-5pm

Glow Lamp by Towards Nightfall

Continuing in the long tradition of woodworking and craft culture in
the Northeast, ‘Form/Function’ features the works of emerging fine
furniture makers in Vermont. The makers each look to infuse beauty and
artistry into the objects that we live and interact with everyday,
looking past pure utilitarianism to craft pieces truly worth sharing
our spaces with.

Crook, chair by Jamie Herman

All the exhibitors were trained at the Vermont Woodworking School in
Fairfax and are members of the newly-formed Collective working out of
a cooperative shop in the school’s historic red barn. The members
represent four emerging furniture businesses, each one bringing a
distinct style and design aesthetic while staying true to the
time-tested methods of traditional wooden joinery and construction
techniques.

____________

“Form/Function” features contemporary, handcrafted furniture from members of The Collective at the Vermont Woodworking School. The exhibit showcases modern takes on traditional wooden furniture forms,
blurring the line between art and function. Works by emerging local design/build companies Eleven Wood Design, Jamie Herman Studio Furniture, Towards Nightfall, and Valor Woodworks. Selections of photography featured by fellow woodworker, Eli Rosenblum-Stephens.
