Exciting News! SEABA Names New Executive Director! (hint: she’s ours too!)

SEABA Names New Executive Director
Christy Mitchell to Take on the Role

Christy will continue to serve as the Director of The S.P.A.C.E. Gallery, with additional staff for open hours and events. If you are interested in volunteering or part time work, please email us at spacegalleryvt@gmail.com. We are so excited!

For Immediate Release;

BURLINGTON, VT, MAY 9, 2019 – The South End Arts and Business Association’s (SEABA) Board of Directors is thrilled to welcome their new Executive Director, Christy Mitchell to the organization. Ms. Mitchell succeeds the Interim Executive Director, Jeanne Kirby, who will be rejoining the Board as part of our team. Mitchell will lead SEABA into the future with diverse efforts to support the South End’s vibrant creative and entrepreneurial community.

As a longstanding presence in the South End, Mitchell is prepared to serve as a champion and advocate of this exceptional Burlington neighborhood. A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Mitchell has been an artist and small business owner in the South End for 15 years and brings extensive experience that will integrate perfectly with the SEABA mission. She assisted in securing the legal designation of the ‘South End Arts District’, and is currently the Director of The Space Gallery in The Soda Plant on Pine Street.

My passion for the arts and love of creative endeavors has led me down a path of connecting artists to opportunity. My vision for the South End consists of building up relationships and paving new ways for artists and entrepreneurs to connect and communicate with each other and the broader community. My role at SEABA will be diverse, though centered on the idea of the organization being a platform to raise awareness and give a voice to artists and businesses, so that we all may thrive. I’m looking forward to many exciting days ahead.” – Christy Mitchell

We are very pleased to announce that Christy will be joining SEABA as our new Executive Director. This position requires a dynamic leader who is integral to our community, who has a deep knowledge of and appreciation for all that the South End has to offer,” stated Seth Mobley, President of the SEABA Board of Directors. “Christy is the right person to guide SEABA, to nurture its strengths, and to support the innovation taking place across our community.

In the next few months, the Board will work closely with Mitchell to explore and assess the South End’s needs by:
• Planning the 27th Annual South End Art Hop, optimizing its potential
• Conducting listening sessions within the community and engaging members
• Defining programmatic priorities for artists and businesses alike

The SEABA Board invites members of the South End and broader Burlington community to learn more about the organization’s current activities through the website; seaba.com, (802) 859-9222, or info@seaba.com.

Founded in 1986, the South End Arts and Business Association (SEABA) is a 501(c)(6) trade association. SEABA Exhibitions, Inc. was created as a 501(c)(3) to manage the public cultural and educational presentations of SEABA. SEABA is dedicated to promoting Burlington’s Pine Street corridor and its growing number of artists and businesses – large and small. Working together, our members create the unique character of the South End, a place where culture meets commerce.

The S.P.A.C.E. Gallery turns 10 this year! Thank you for 10 years of support!

The Space Gallery is built on ideals of being accessible; to artists
and viewers alike! For us this means that you may show your artwork
regardless of your age, medium, and experience level. This means that
someone may visit the gallery who has not been in a formal exhibition
setting and ask any question and feel comfortable doing so. We take
pride in showing artists work and will always do so professionally!

For all of May, over 40 Space Gallery Members showcase nearly 100 pieces of
artwork that they are proud of, is new for them, or best exemplifies
their specific style. This group will form the pool of artists that
will be represented in exhibitions throughout the coming year, enjoy!
