The S.P.A.C.E. Gallery is holding its annual ‘Small Works’ exhibit again this December and January. There will be two First Friday receptions, along with participation in the Holiday Hop in December.

-This is a non-juried exhibit, all artists of any medium, from any location, are welcome to participate.

-The only criteria is that the work be under 12″ in any dimension, we do allow extra for frame size.

-There is a ‘small’ entry fee of $5 per piece and the maximum number of pieces is limited to 10 per artist.

We are accepting artwork through November 29th. Please submit your entry form online or bring it with you at drop off.

Last drop off times are now: Saturday, November 26 from 11-4pm & Tuesday, November 29 from 11-1pm and 3-5pm

Bringing back the work of Ashley Roark and Christy Mitchell, the exhibit has added Jaclyn Bishop, Wylie Sofia Garcia, Hilary Ann Love Glass, Abby Manock, and Isaac Wasuck to the mix.

Last year's show

Make Art, Repeat. explores the use of repetition in art through shape, pattern, style, and execution. Each artist brings their own take on the theme from printmaking, to works in resin, to large installations. We hope to see you there!

More importantly, we want to thank all of the very talented artists in the area (and beyond) who were willing to share their darker side with us. You made the show simply captivating!

The Art of Horror will be on display through the rest of October at both the S.P.A.C.E. Gallery as well as The Backspace. We are located at 266 Pine Street, Burlington, Vermont.

The S.P.A.C.E. and Backspace Galleries are pleased to present a juried group show for Halloween. Guest curators have chosen work that best defines the “art of horror.” The show will represent the beautiful side of decay, the finer points of blood letting, and that special something inside a depraved mind.

Please join us for the opening reception where you will meet the artists, hear ghost stories from the Queen of Halloween, Thea Lewis, and have your future told by a local fortune teller.

The show is guest curated by Kevin Montanaro, Beth Robinson, Justin Atherton

Participating artists include:

The S.P.A.C.E. and Backspace Galleries are surrounded by 15 working artist studios. Located in The Soda Plant on Pine Street, the spaces are a quick walk from downtown Burlington, yet in the heart of the South End Arts District.

Artist studios range in price depending on size from $150 to $350 per month.
All studios include utilities and the option of wireless internet. Artists may participate in monthly First Friday Art Walks and annual art events, such as the Art Hop.

Availability as follows: 

Starting October 2011, 8′X10′, $225, located in The S.P.A.C.E. (open plan, 3 whole and 1 half wall)
Starting October 2011, 8′X15.5′, $300, located in The S.P.A.C.E. (more private, full walls, has locking door)*
*note, we have an artist interested in splitting the cost and space in this option
Starting October 2011, 11′x13′, $350, located in The S.P.A.C.E. (open plan w/ whole & half walls, gallery style studio)

The S.P.A.C.E. and Backspace Galleries are looking for artwork for our Halloween show that best defines the “art of horror.” The work we are looking for will represent the beautiful side of decay, the finer points of blood letting, and that special something inside a depraved mind. Artwork should be thematically appropriate and must display a reasonable degree of skill and ability. We will accept 2-D, 3-D & Photography.

“The Art of Horror” Submission Guidelines:

• Open to all Vermont artists at least 18 years old.
• All entries must be for sale.
• Up to five entries allowed per artist.
• Work must be suitable for a PG-13 audience.

Please be aware that there is a $15 entry fee if your work is selected for the show.

The S.P.A.C.E. and Backspace Galleries reserve the right to use your name and images of your artwork for publicity purposes. Your entry into this exhibition constitutes your acceptance of the terms of this agreement.

2. Send your artwork in the form of photographs, tear sheets, or a CD. You can submit up to five works. Digital files should be no bigger than 8” x 10” in height/width. No less than 150 dpi. No more than 300 dpi. File formats accepted: JPG, TIF, PNG, PDF, EPS. Files on disk should be print ready so we can use them for promotions. No mailed submissions will be returned.
